EMDR
Eye movement desensitisation therapy is a form of psychotherapy which is usually used to help people with symptoms of PTSD. It is thought that when a traumatic or distressing experience occurs it may overwhelm normal coping mechanisms. The memory and associated stimuli are inadequately processed and stored in an isolated memory network. The goal of EMDR is to reduce the effects of such distressing memories by engaging the brain’s natural adaptive information using bilateral stimulation such as side to side eye movements as the person recalls the distressing images or memories.
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
Rational Emotive Behaviour therapy is a psychological treatment which addresses unhealthy negative beliefs, emotions, and behaviours. The treatment utilises an active directive approach and is highly effective in treating emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, unhealthy anger, guilt, and shame.
Schema therapy
Schema therapy is an integrative psychotherapy combining theory and techniques including cognitive behavioural therapy, gestalt therapy, object relations theory, and attachment theory. The treatment is particularly effective in treating personality difficulties, relationship problems, and self-harm behaviours.
Compassion Focussed therapy
Compassion focused therapy is a system of psychotherapy which helps people develop and work with experiences of inner warmth, safeness and soothing. This involves learning the skills and attributes of compassion. The treatment is particularly effective is dealing with emotional problems such as shame and guilt.
Acceptance and commitment therapy
Acceptance and commitment therapy is a psychological treatment which enables people to learn what they value and commit to those values in order to experience a more fulfilling life. The approach also involves learning ways of coping with difficult thoughts and emotions.
Solution focussed therapy
Solution focussed therapy is a goal-directed collaborative approach to psychotherapeutic change focusing on present and future concerns and working on solutions in an active directive manner in order to overcome such concerns.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing is a psychological approach which helps develop intrinsic motivation within the person to change maladaptive behaviours such as problem drinking.
Family Therapy
Family therapy is a branch or psychotherapy which works with families or couples to manage psychological problems by facilitating open communication between people and addressing strengths in such relationships with the view of ameliorating problems caused within the system.
